Henki H1 vs H2 review: which Henki wood stove should you buy?
Buy the H2 for a backyard barrel or cabin and the H1 for a mini barrel. Henki builds both wood stoves in Ontario and says neither is certified.

Buy the Henki H2 for most backyard barrels and cabins, and save the H1 for a mini barrel or the tightest budget. Henki builds both in Ontario as wood stoves you load from outside the sauna, and each price includes the chimney. The H2 costs $2,499 against $1,799 and holds four times the stone, so each ladle of water comes back as a longer wave of steam. We read Henki's product pages, its FAQ and its sales terms and went through all 153 owner reviews on its store.
The H2 costs $700 more and carries four times the stone
The two stoves share a design. Each one slides through a hole in the sauna wall and bolts to the outside by its back plate, and you feed it through a door outdoors. The differences are in the stone, the firebox and what Henki puts in the box.

Specifications and prices from Henki's H1 and H2 pages, read Oct 19, 2026, before shipping and tax. Henki lists the firebox as three measurements, and the row shows the longest one.
The H2 is the Henki we'd put in a backyard barrel or cabin
Buy the H2 if your sauna is anything bigger than a mini barrel. Its 91 kg (200 lb) of stone stores far more heat than the H1's, so each ladle hisses into steam that keeps rolling and the room holds its temperature between loads. Henki says it redesigned the firebox to burn in stages with pre-heated air, and it moved the chimney elbow inside the stove to keep more of the heat in the room.
The H2 also fits a framed wall more easily. Its mounting holes sit 81 cm (32 in) apart for studs at 16 in on centre, and a 10 cm (4 in) gap behind the rock cage clears a 2x4 or a 2x6 wall.
The weak spot is the box. Henki's H2 kit lists no wall shield, and its own stainless shield costs $149 more, which brings the stove to $2,648 by our math.
The H1 suits a mini barrel and the tightest budget
Henki says the H1 fits its own mini barrel and its 6 ft mini cube, and its rating stops at 18 m³ (650 cu ft). It comes with the stainless interior shield the H2 leaves out, so the $700 gap's closer to $850 once you shield an H2.
We'd hesitate over the stone. At 23 kg (50 lb), the H1 carries a quarter of the H2's load, so a long session means more ladling for less steam each time. By Henki's own measurements, though, its firebox runs about 15 cm (6 in) longer than the H2's, so it takes longer splits of wood.

Henki Heaters & Stoves
Henki H1
Built in Ontario
“The H1 suits a mini barrel, and its 23 kg (50 lb) of stone limits it anywhere bigger.”
You load both stoves from outside the sauna
Installing either stove starts with one opening in the sauna wall. You slide the stove in from outside and lift it clear of the floor, then screw its back plate to the exterior wall, Henki's FAQ says. Wood, ash and smoke stay outdoors, and the chimney never passes through the roof.
Henki's stock elbow leaves about 36 cm (14 in) between the back of the stove and the chimney pipe, so it clears most roof overhangs, and Henki sells other elbows if yours needs more. Bring a truck or trailer and a second pair of hands. The lighter H1 still weighs 147 kg (325 lb), and Henki ships both stoves on a pallet within about a week, or you can pick one up in Toronto or Melancthon, Ontario.
Neither stove carries a certification mark
Henki says plainly that its stoves aren't certified, and its FAQ goes further, saying no sauna stove sold in North America is certified by a recognized body. That doesn't match what Nootka says about the Harvia M3 it fits in its wood-fired barrels, which Nootka calls UL-listed.
An uncertified stove can still go in legally under your local building code, Henki says, and a WETT-certified installer can inspect and approve the job. Your insurer will most likely ask for that report, so book the inspection and call your municipality before the first fire. Our permits guide covers what each province asks for.
Henki builds the stoves in Ontario and doesn't say where
Henki's FAQ says its stoves are "manufactured in Ontario, Canada," and its product pages add that they're made from iron-carbon steel. Henki's based in Toronto and ships from a warehouse in Melancthon, Ontario, which it describes as for shipping and pickup only. It doesn't name the shop that welds the stoves or the mill that rolls the steel.
Henki's about page credits two brothers without naming them. Melancthon is also where LeisureCraft builds its saunas, and neither company says the two are connected. We'd like Henki to name its shop. Until it does, it sits with the makers that give only a province, as our method page sets out.
Read Henki's sales terms before you order
Every sale at Henki is final. Its refund policy rules out any return or refund, exchanges included, and asks you to contact Henki about damage when the stove arrives. Check the stove and its paint before the carrier leaves.
Henki's FAQ gives its saunas a minimum one-year limited warranty and doesn't state a term for the stoves, so ask Henki what covers an H1 or H2 and keep its reply with your receipt.
What do Henki's store reviews tell you?
Less than the star counts suggest. Henki's store shows 104 reviews of the H1 and 49 of the H2, and every one gives four or five stars. All the H1 reviews carry the same date in July 2025, as do all the H2 reviews, none is marked as a verified purchase, and several H2 reviews repeat each other word for word. We can't tell how they were collected, so we don't lean on them.
Taken at face value, owners like the outside feed and the clean room it leaves, and many call the install easy. A few practical notes stand out. One H1 owner touched up rust with Henki's paint, another cured the paint before installing, and an H2 owner wished the chimney cap were sturdier.
How Henki compares with other Canadian heaters
Fenno's WB wood heaters from Markham start at $935 and can also feed from outside through a non-combustible wall, so they're the cheaper Ontario alternative. LeisureCraft's TimberGlow14 holds about as much stone as the H2 and comes from Melancthon too.
If you have 240V at the sauna, an electric heater skips the chimney, the inspection and the woodpile. Our guide to Canadian heaters and stoves prices them all, and the heater sizing guide works out what your room needs.

How did we review the Henki stoves?
This review draws on Henki's H1 and H2 product pages, its FAQ and its refund policy, read Oct 19, 2026. We read all 153 owner reviews on Henki's store, which uses Judge.me, on the same day. We keep Henki's origin evidence on file as our method page describes, and Henki doesn't pay us.

- Where are Henki sauna stoves made?
- Henki says it manufactures its H1 and H2 sauna stoves in Ontario from iron-carbon steel. It's based in Toronto with a warehouse in Melancthon, and it doesn't name the shop that builds the stoves.
