LeisureCraft sauna review: which Ontario-built model fits your yard?

Buy the Georgian cabin for six or the Harmony barrel for four. LeisureCraft builds both in Ontario from Ontario white cedar and sells only through dealers.

We'd buy LeisureCraft's Georgian cabin for a group of six and its Harmony barrel or MiniPOD for four. LeisureCraft builds them in Melancthon, Ontario, from eastern white cedar that it says comes from Ontario mills, which makes them the most Ontario-made saunas we list. The catch is the buying. LeisureCraft won't sell you one directly and doesn't post prices, so you'll get a quote on a kit through a store and assemble it yourself or pay someone to.

LeisureCraft builds three collections in one Ontario factory

LeisureCraft has built saunas in Melancthon, the township around Dundalk, since 2004, its about page says, and runs six buildings there. Its saunas come in three collections. Canadian Timber uses Ontario's eastern white cedar, while Dundalk and Pure Cube use western red cedar the company buys from mills in British Columbia.

We've priced the models below from the Calgary dealer Backyard Canada, which ships nationwide. Other dealers set their own prices, so we'd treat these as a guide and get a written quote.

The Georgian cabin is our pick for six

The Georgian is the biggest room in the Canadian Timber line, and LeisureCraft seats six inside. It's a shed-style cabin of white cedar with a porch option, and you can heat it with wood or electricity. LeisureCraft suggests a 9 kW heater, which puts it on a bigger circuit than the barrels need.

The detail we like is the roof. LeisureCraft's cabin page says the steel shingles are made in Listowel from steel rolled in Hamilton, so even the part most makers buy in comes from down the road.

Where to buy

For four people, the Harmony barrel and the MiniPOD cost about the same

The Harmony is the shortest Canadian Timber barrel, about 2 m (6.6 ft) deep, with 50 cm (20 in) benches and aluminum bands LeisureCraft says are made in Canada. The MiniPOD trades the round shell for a raindrop roof with three layers under it, and LeisureCraft rates both for four.

Pick the Harmony if you like the barrel's quick heat and want the option of a longer one later, since the Serenity and Tranquility share its build at five and six seats. The MiniPOD gives you more headroom at the door and a flat floor. Both take a wood stove or an electric heater, and neither comes with one.

Where to buy

The Luna squares off the shape and drops the wood stove

The Luna is a white cedar room with rounded corners, closer to a modern cube than a barrel. LeisureCraft seats four and lists it for electric heat only, around 6 kW. It costs about $2,400 more than a Harmony, so you're paying for the shape.

Where to buy

Pure Cube puts BC red cedar behind a glass front

If you'd rather have western red cedar and a wall of glass, the Pure Cube line is LeisureCraft's answer. The CU572 is Backyard Canada's best seller in it, a knotty red cedar room for two or three with a glass door between two bronze double-pane windows. LeisureCraft says it buys all its red cedar from certified mills in British Columbia and shapes it in Ontario.

It's the dearest LeisureCraft room we've priced for its size. You're paying for the glass and the finish more than the bench space.

Where to buy

LeisureCraft makes its own wood stove, the TimberGlow

LeisureCraft distributes heaters from Homecraft, HUUM, Harvia and Narvi, and builds one itself. The TimberGlow14 takes 41 cm (16 in) logs in a firebox of 3/16 in steel and holds up to 90 kg (200 lb) of stones, its heater page says. Henki sells it, priced by whether the chimney goes through the roof or out a wall.

LeisureCraft doesn't say where the steel comes from or whether the stove's been tested to a North American standard. Ask your insurer before you buy, since many want a WETT inspection on a wood stove. For an electric heater built in Canada, LeisureCraft points buyers to Homecraft in BC.

Where to buy

Where the wood and the parts come from

LeisureCraft says its Canadian Timber cedar is locally sourced from Ontario mills, and its Dundalk collection page says all its western red cedar comes from certified mills in British Columbia. Neither page names a mill. The barrel bands are marine-grade aluminum made in Canada, LeisureCraft says, and the hardware is stainless.

Two things it doesn't trace. The CT Element indoor sauna uses thermally modified Thermo Grandis wood of unstated origin, so we haven't listed it. The cold plunges use chillers from Coldture or Penguin, and LeisureCraft doesn't say where its stainless and plastic liners come from.

You buy through a dealer and assemble a kit

LeisureCraft sells through more than 75 retailers in Canada and doesn't sell direct. Its retailer finder is the place to start if you want to see one built before you buy. Backyard Canada in Calgary ships its kits across the country and charges one flat rate.

The saunas arrive flat, with assembly videos and drawings for each model. Some dealers will build it for you in their own area, so ask when you quote. Plan for the heater, an electrician and a level base on top of the kit price.

LeisureCraft's weak spots

The biggest is price transparency. With no list prices on LeisureCraft's site, two dealers can quote the same Georgian differently, so we'd always get a second quote before signing.

The kits ask more of you than a sauna that arrives built. If you'd rather not assemble anything, SaunaSpa's barrels arrive ready to use from its Quebec shop. And if you want wood heat, check that the model takes a stove first, because the Luna and the smallest cabin don't.

How LeisureCraft compares with other Canadian makers

LeisureCraft is the Ontario pick in the best saunas made in Canada. Nootka in BC sells direct with clear prices and builds on site around Vancouver, and our Nootka review covers its range. True North's kits from Owen Sound cost less, and SaunaSpa trucks its barrels out already built.

How did we review LeisureCraft?

This review draws on LeisureCraft's model pages, collection pages, heater FAQ and product summary, read Oct 10, 2026, with prices taken from Backyard Canada's store, since LeisureCraft publishes none. LeisureCraft's warranty page was down when we checked, so the five-year figure comes from its model pages. The origin record behind each listing is explained on our method page.
