Who should buy the 8 ft barrel?
BnB Barrels' 8 ft barrel suits a household in Calgary or Edmonton that wants room for six and the barrel delivered and built for free. BnB builds it in Calgary from Selkirk western red cedar under a black metal roof, and quotes two weeks from deposit to delivery. Inside, the barrel runs 2.3 m (7 ft 8 in) long and 1.8 m (6 ft) across.
The heater costs extra, from $400 for an unbranded 9 kW to $5,700 for a HUUM Hive. If you'd rather have the heater in the price, Bramari's Eight Foot from the same city includes a Harvia KIP, and Copperwood's barrel near Edmonton takes a Homecraft heater built in BC.
What does it take to install?
BnB says the barrel needs no concrete foundation, only a level surface, with pavers under the cradles if it sits on grass. Delivery and assembly are free in Calgary and Edmonton. BnB delivers fully assembled barrels within about four to six hours of Calgary, which covers much of Alberta and parts of BC and Saskatchewan, and ships a DIY kit to the rest of Canada at a price quoted by postal code. An 8 or 9 kW heater needs a 240V connection on a 50-amp breaker and an electrical permit, and BnB recommends a certified electrician install an outdoor spa pack with a GFCI breaker. The Harvia M3 wood stove needs a chimney and 3 m (10 ft) of clearance around it.

What to know before you buy
Western Red Cedar, electric, wood-fired. These decide whether it suits your space and your electrical panel.
- Western Red CedarWestern Red Cedar is the high-end sauna wood, and it resists rot and insects naturally. It's aromatic and conducts heat poorly, so benches stay cool enough to sit on at 90°C (194°F).
- Wood-FiredA log stove heats the room, so the sauna runs fully off-grid and the crackling fire becomes part of the ritual. Fans of wood heat call its löyly the softest. Plan for a chimney and about 45–60 min of heat-up.
- ElectricAn electric heater holds a steady temperature on its thermostat and needs no chimney. Many models add app or timer control.
