Who should buy the 10 ft barrel?
The 10 ft barrel is the Nootka for a family or a group. Nootka seats eight in it with the electric heater and six with a wood stove, so it's the size we'd choose for a cottage without 240V service. It's built in Squamish from the same locally milled western red cedar as the 8 ft.
If four seats will do, the 8 ft saves about $1,400. For six people in Ontario, LeisureCraft's Georgian cabin is the closer build.
What does it take to install?
Plan a level pad about 2 by 3 m (6 ft 7 in by 9 ft 10 in) for a barrel that weighs about 885 kg (1,950 lb), roughly a third more than the 8 ft. The electric version runs the same 9 kW heater on a 50-amp, 240V breaker, and Nootka says the power draw barely changes. Outside Nootka's own delivery area around Vancouver, it ships in two crates.
