Who should buy the Barrel Sauna?
The Bunkie Life barrel suits a cottage owner who wants wood heat without shopping for a stove. Bunkie Life packs Harvia's M3 wood stove from Finland in the kit, with stones and a chimney adapter, and rates the pine barrel for four to six. It says the kit is handcrafted in Ontario from Canadian pine.
You still buy the chimney pipe and a heat shield mat, and Bunkie Life wants a WETT-certified technician to fit the flue. LeisureCraft's Harmony gives you Ontario white cedar for about $1,500 less before its heater. SaunaSpa delivers its barrels assembled, for buyers who don't want a kit at all.
What does it take to install?
Bunkie Life recommends a level platform or small deck that keeps the barrel off wet ground, about 1.96 m (77 in) wide and 3.04 m (10 ft) long with the porch. Lead time is 4 to 6 weeks. In Ontario, group delivery runs $300 to $2,000 depending on distance and comes with an all-terrain forklift, and depots in other provinces start at $600. You'll also need a hole saw to cut the opening for the flue.

What to know before you buy
Pine, wood-fired. These decide whether it suits your space and your electrical panel.
- PinePine is a classic, aromatic Nordic softwood. It's renewable, and it keeps a sauna's price down.
- Wood-FiredA log stove heats the room, so the sauna runs fully off-grid and the crackling fire becomes part of the ritual. Fans of wood heat call its löyly the softest. Plan for a chimney and about 45–60 min of heat-up.
